Laura Thompson - Illustrator, Creature Designer, Sculptor, Fabricator
This year, my work has been inspired by a trip to Malaysia I had over the summer, I wanted to create a little piece of the world I had visited and convey the magical feeling of being completely isolated from civilisation in the rainforest. I find the natural world and how different species all work together fascinating and have used it as inspiration for a huge amount of my work. Because of my love of nature, I have developed a passion for creature design I have travelled around the world, I have found myself becoming inspired to design more and more creatures that could live in these mysterious places. I really enjoy working in 3D as well as illustrating and designing in 2D. The tree I created for my final piece was the biggest piece of work I have ever done, which was an interesting challenge, but I really enjoyed it and would love the opportunity to create something like it again. However I also love working at a tiny scale, adding loads of minute detail to illustrations and sculptures.
