The students and staff of the Technical Arts and Special Effects (TASE) Course welcome visitors to the 2008 exhibition of graduate work. Technical Arts and Special Effects is unique in that it is an ‘arts’ course which communicates through a wide range of technical skills currently used in film, theatre, television and exhibition.
Graduating students have an opportunity to focus on a chosen path and achieve a high level of technical competence in subjects which include, model-making, life sculpture, prosthetic make-up, digital animation, and film making. We understand ‘special effects’ as using technology to enhance the creative imagination.
This year’s graduating students have produced a wonderful array of conceptually ambitious and technically proficient work. There are a number of figure studies from life as well as imaginative figurative works; a successful film collaboration between a technical arts student and a set design student, a fantasy stilt walker’s costume, a zoetrope, and a metal maze with automata and more.
The students would like to express a special thanks to the permanent teaching staff and technicians and to all the many visiting lecturers who give their time so generously. We would like to wish this group of graduating students the very best for the future and every success in their careers.
