Sarah Jane Sparkes - Set Designer (TV, Fashion, etc)
During my 3 years in stage and screen I have established that I am very adaptable to a variety of genres, styles and productions. I have created an array of diverse work using assorted mediums and ideas with a distinct essence of ‘me’. I like to twist my styles and techniques to produce something slighting fresh yet beautifully detailed, (and a tad obscene at times), and I love creating hidden messages or statements within my work to do with extensive yet contemporary subject matter. This final year of work involves an animation of my manic alcoholic Teddy Bear named Terry. He is found interacting with a child-like junk-style set inspired by Pragues famous Black Light Theatre.
My smaller project HIT-MI, however deemed just as challenging as my animation, is a fashion show set design based on the nuclear war in Japan (Hiroshima, Nagasaki and so forth.) The set is shaped like ‘The Fat Man’ bomb which hit Nagasaki, is intended to be an outdoor event to tour around the World.
My other work includes painted and inked storyboards and concepts, colour models, and technical drawings based on Film, Theatre and TV sets.
Specific Skills: Storyboarding (colour / detailed and sketches), colour models, technical drawing, and conceptual abilities.
