Celina Norris - Art Director / Production Designer / Event Design
Coming from a background in sculpture my approach to design is always very practical, detailed and well made. I have used these three years to build on the core skills needed to become a good designer teamed with as much first hand experience as possible. It has been extremely important for me to ensure that I have worked steadily on projects throughout my time studying at Wimbledon, so that the theoretical skills accumulated throughout the degree could be used, fully understood and improved upon. The most important skill I have taken from the course is to realise my designs in 3D programs, which I have found to help me immensely in communicating complex ideas to other crew members. Starting in Theatre, as an Assistant Art Director to the YCA’s conceptual theatre pieces at RADA, I soon moved on to art departments for companies such as Draw Pictures, Academy Films, MTV and FatCat, concentrating much more on promo’s, adverts and short films. From this, I have gone on to design and art direct a number of promos and short films including a collaboration with Goldsmiths MA Film students. The film, Open Heart Surgery, is currently being entered into the international short film festival circuit. My most recent, and ongoing, position is Stage Designer for one of the main tents in the Shangri La area at Glastonbury 2008. Being propelled to this level of responsibility has been a fantastic experience for me and has given me the knowledge that I am capable of designing and managing a large project.
