Amer Chadha-Patel - Production Designer, Director, Animator, Illustrator and Photographer
I have had the fortune of being exposed to world of film for most of my life and being a child actor I was captivated by the magic of film from a very early age. I have since discovered my passions lie behind the camera and have made it a serious ambition to be able to use my life in order to tell visual stories. My time here at Wimbledon has been invaluable in helping my along to achieving this goal. Under the banner of ‘Set Design’ I have honed my skills as a creative and ambitious Art Director, employing a fresh outlook on the world’s organic forms and colours to help inspire my designs. However, I have made a point of learning way more than expected with my time here. Through a bountiful and educational partnership with Graduating Technical Artist Matthew Richards, I have explored avenues of Special Effects, Stop-motion animation and ambitious storytelling and writing. Since 2007 Matthew and I have co written, designed and produced two short animation/live action films, ‘The Ten Seas’ and ‘Flicker’, with us realising and me directing the latter. My desire to create the unbelievable worlds like the one described in this script lead me to combine my child-like imaginative worlds featuring broken lighthouses swaying in the wind with an eerily realistic and equally professional character and prosthetic by Matthew. Using skills I learnt from working with a technical artist I have been able to design and create things like realistic stone interiors and complicated aged furniture on small budgets, to bring my sets to life. My positive resourcefulness and attitude to Set Design lead prosthetic tutor and special effects artist Dan Martin to ask me to Art Direct his Directorial Debut ‘Hatch’ in the summer of 2007. This was a highly successful collaboration and will continue well into my career. My true aim in life is to become one of a breed of specific Directors and storytellers with a qualified education and experience of the intense design and visual processes that film commands. Only this background will ensure that the true vision in any script I work with is brought fully to life through one united and powerful mind whether it be mine or that of the director that I work with!
