Roger White - Theatre Designer and Visual Artist
Over the three years at Wimbledon my skills and confidence as a designer have grown. Through designing both speculative and realised productions, and by learning to communicate and develop my ideas through model making and illustration, my work and process has matured. Realised projects include a reworking of Ionesco’s ‘The Lesson’ for which I designed and made the set, costumes and special effects. It was a collaboration with director Mike Miller from E15 acting school, with whom I have developed a good working relationship.

My interests are not only confined to proscenium theatre, I am interested in environmental scenography where the audience is totally submerged within a designed environment. I have designed a scheme to transform the Crystal Palace television masts into light sculptures that have a dialog together in respond to the local climate. The project was a response to the regeneration of the Crystal Palace area and my feeling that these landmarks need to be utilised in a more positive way for the area. I am currently working with my classmate Sophie Goldthorpe on sets and costumes for a piece of devised theatre called ‘Everyone We Know’ for Edinburgh festival this year.

Specific Skills: I have a variety of skills including; technical drawing, concept artist, model making and fabricating sets and costumes.
