Rebecca Roddis - Designer for Performance
Whilst studying at Wimbledon I have been able to develop skills which are vital to being a designer for performance. Skills such as model-making, costume designing and technical drawing. I believe that as a designer I successfully create atmosphere and coherently show how a design would work and look. I particularly enjoy designing for site-specific performance, I like how a design can create a contrasting or complimentary atmosphere to that of the location.
Prior to, and alongside the course, during work experience and with theatre companies I have gained experience in lighting, set construction and scenic art. I have also worked closely with a theatre company, ‘bratz unlimited’, for whom I have been given the roles and responsibilities of set designer and stage manager for productions of various musicals at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. This gave me the experience of working in a professional environment and with a cast of teenagers. Working with the company has given me confidence and a better understanding of how a production runs.
I also have a keen interest in illustration, which has helped when drawing up designs and when storyboarding productions. I have good people skills and work well as part of a team. I have keen attention to detail and always strive to produce the best I can. I am a creative person, who is extremely passionate about performance.
