Claire Pattison - Set / Production designer
As a designer I refer to a number of techniques that I have gained during my time at Wimbledon. This includes technical drawing, scale drawing, model making, illustration, storyboarding and log booking, these skills enable me to effectively express my ideas to a production team in a variety of ways. For me the research and analysis of the themes and motifs of a text is exciting and I often relish in the research period which has in turn vastly extended my knowledge of theatre and performance.
Being a passionate and diligent individual I thrive in collaborative situations. Since being at Wimbledon I have had the opportunity to work outside of the college as assistant designer on fringe and in pub theatre, and more recently as a designer for The Mean Time Opera Company on their performance of ‘Carmen’ at the Greenwich theatre and with director Bronwyn Lim on her production of ‘Journey’s’ at the New Wimbledon theatre. For each performance I have been required to not only design but to construct the sets as well. Along side this I have gained a good understanding of budgeting, researching and sourcing as well as ordering materials and hiring equipment and props. Through these experiences I have formed reliable contacts who I often call upon as my team for get ins and outs which I have now become quite competent at.
