Sandra Morgan - Costume Interpreter
I undertook a degree course at Wimbledon after many years of being an enthusiastic amateur, and have expanded my knowledge to incorporate pattern cutting, corsetry, millinery, tailoring, and accessory and prop making. During my second year I made three costumes for Colin in the London Children’s Ballet production of The Secret Garden, giving me an insight into working practices. I also gained experience in tutu construction and beading. In the summer of 2007 I attended a two week work experience at the Royal Opera House, making a ballet bodice and assisting in the Jewels production. Other work experience was gained working on Angels in America at the Lyric Hammersmith and on tour, making two period dresses; as well as a 16th century coat for Jupiter in The Play of the Weather, Hampton Court. I was happy to have the opportunity to work during the summer of 2007 for Holding Fire at the Globe, making a variety of nineteenth century waistcoats. Later I made an eighteenth century man’s suit for Haydn’s Country Matters for English Touring Opera, which was shown at Hackney Empire. I am interested in working as a freelance costume interpreter, bringing into play my ability to work well independently and within a set time frame.
