Nicola Herlihy - Costumier
As a Costume Interpretation student I have graduated with a wealth of knowledge and experience within the field of costume for theatre and film. I enjoy pushing myself out of my comfort zone and strive for perfection in all aspects of my work. The skills I hold are based around historical costume construction and include both men’s and women’s tailoring, pattern cutting, decoration techniques such as dye, print and beadwork techniques and millinery.
Along side my degree work I have completed work placements at both The Royal Opera House and BBC Costume and Wigs, through which I have gained experience in two very different fields of costume so consider myself to have a solid basis of knowledge to enable me to become a versatile costumier. A year’s part time work in the wardrobe department of the West End’s ‘Phantom of the Opera’ has given me the knowledge of how a long standing running wardrobe functions and within this company I have experience as a dresser, wardrobe assistant and freelance costume maker. Although my costume experience lies mainly within a theatrical context, I am confident that I have the ability to apply my skills in the film and television industries and feel that the completion of the Costume Interpretation degree has well prepared me for this.
Specific Skills: Costume for theatre and film.
