Libby Everall - Costume Interpreter
I leave Wimbledon with a greater knowledge of the industry I hope to work in. My confidence has increased as I have worked towards my degree. Painting has always been my greatest love, but I chose to explore a new area in costume, hoping to apply one skill with the other. Costume has proved to be a field more exciting to me. I want to expand my skills and explore further something that I have come to love. I previously worked in the Cornelia James fashion house, through whose contacts I was able to gain experience backstage in the West End theatre production of Mama Mia. This I think inspired me to further involvement in this area, doing a small costume design and make for an MA graduate at the London Film Studios. Since then, and whilst studying, I have been involved in a range of small BBC and private productions also working for a few weeks in the costume department at Glyndebourne Opera House. With every experience I was inspired to explore further. Working at Angels for several months in the summer of 2007 I was able to see and understand firsthand the preparatory work of a costumiers’ that is fundamental for the set-up of a film or theatrical production. I loved being so involved in this side of the industry, but each time I was involved in collecting and creating characters for the different productions I wanted to see it through and interact with the characters on set. Therefore, I hope that future work will give me a chance to be involved on film and theatrical locations, whilst giving me the opportunity to apply my sewing and historical costume knowledge, learnt both at Wimbledon and in jobs and work experience. My love of fine art gives me a good sense of colour and space and composition. My disciplined training at Wimbledon gives me the knowledge and ability to design, construct and source costumes from any period. I hope to find work using both my artistic and practical qualifications.
