Laura Renouf
Following on from the skills I have gained in the first two years of my degree my final collection displays a number of advanced skills including corsetry, print and dye, millinery, tailoring and unusual construction techniques. I am also fascinated by the process of characterisation, and, having begun at Wimbledon on the Costume design course, remain committed to the preparation of ‘clothes’ for character. Having gained interest in film costume over my education, I have been grateful to share my enthusiasm and skills through work experience on several films over the last year. Being able to apply my abilities in construction to real projects and observe the collaborative process involved in film costume has been critical for my understanding of the industry. To see first hand the results of effective and skilled teamwork has proved an inspiration. Although gaining a particular interest in unusual surfaces and construction techniques throughout my degree (as shown through my armour and white witch costumes), I remain interested in all aspects of costume realisation (including modern), and hope to gain future work in a supporting role buying, assisting design, dressing or making, to enhance a team and further my capabilities.
