Kristina Chow - Costumier
I completed an Art and Design foundation course at Camberwell college of Art, specialising in craft and print. Throughout this time, I found that I had a keen interest in screen-printing and surface decoration, as well as sewing and decided to pursue this interest further. By studying on the costume interpretation course at Wimbledon, I have been able to find and develop my skills in costume, in the form of practical skills such as pattern drafting, corsetry, dying and painting into costumes and surface embellishment, as well as research skills in historical referencing, and life skills such as time management and budgeting.

My work placements have consisted of a variety of theatre work, including The Young Vic theatre, The London Bubble theatre and touring theatre, The Lord Chamberlain’s Men. Throughout these placements I realised that not only are the practical skills of a costume maker essential, but also the ability to interact with the actors, getting the know the character that they are going to play in order to make important decisions about the look and feel of the individual character’s costume, which I was able to achieve. I have also been given the opportunity to work with costume designers such as Anthony Ward, in an interpretation of his costume from the theatre musical show Oliver. I have a strong interest in tailoring and corsetry and am keen to develop skills in these specific areas.

Specific Skills: Tailoring, Surface Decoration and Printing.
