Emily Newby - Costumier
I originally sought to work in film and so decided to study costume interpretation. I have enthusiasm for both designing and making but felt that it is important to understand the technicalities. The course is diverse and I felt this would help me to decide what to specialise in. During my second year I developed a passion for researching and making historical undergarments and to pursue this I have attended several lingerie courses to further my skills in this area. I now design and make lingerie on a small scale in my own time. I have a passion for making to a high standard and would like to pursue a career in women’s lingerie. Studying costume interpretation has given me the opportunity to develop the skills I will need in pattern cutting and production to allow me to go into this field. I take pride in the precision of the finish of my garments and always strive for perfection. My knowledge and skills are based in making but I am highly creative in my fabric decisions and textile embellishment. I am a highly motivated individual and have good abilities in time management and organisation. I am able to work with enthusiasm and determination both within a team and alone. I now look forward to making the step into the professional world.
