Alice Fitzgerald - Costume Interpreter
Before starting Costume Interpretation I completed Wimbledon School of Art’s Foundation where I specialised in theatre. I had previously spent four years with Watford Palace Youth Theatre where I worked backstage on all aspects of theatre production. It was these experiences which led me towards costume. During the course I have become much more proficient in my technical skills and the wide variety of projects has exposed me to a range of specialist techniques which I continue to improve on in my final costumes.
Aside from my college projects I found several work placements including working on productions at the Young Vic, Globe Theatre and a site specific piece at Hampton Court Palace. I was involved in dressing, buying and assisting the costume supervisors, these experiences tested my capabilities, increased my confidence and exposed me to new ways of working. This year I have developed my tailoring skills and enjoyed the practical work during the time I spent in the dye room creating the fabrics for my “Gangs of New York” costume. I am seeking a career in Theatre / Film / Television working within the costume specialism and currently available for work.
Specific Skills: Tailoring (mens), Corsets, Print & Dye, Beading, Pattern drafting & cutting on the stand, Fabric sourcing, Dressing.
