Mirjam Maramaa - Costume Artist
I am a colourful artist with an extraordinary imagination. Full of creative energy I enjoy experimenting and finding new ideas, I dive into my work with passion, I am strongly dedicated and work well under high demands. I am ambitious and have a very open-minded attitude. I enjoy the whole developmental journey from imagination to creation. My fine art background has an influential effect on my work. I have always been keen on painting and I feel that colour is a vital element within design. My highly imaginative illustration skills enable me to visualize my extravagant fantasies on paper in the most artistic way. In contrast to being confined to two-dimensional flat surface. My long lasting experiments in silk painting have lead me to develop original techniques and given me confidence to collaborate these with the surface of fabrics creating an original outcome. Silk freezes under my dashing strokes of brush, hot gelatine poured on painting is some of my recent experiments. Having learned dress-making from my mother and taken appropriate work experience I have high construction skills although I do not want to follow the rules of period costumes. This is evident in a recent project I undertook: ‘The Silhouette of Venice’ which brought me a prize in a sculptural costume design and making competition. My wish is to freshen up people’s mind from grey everyday environment. I would be happy to work as a design assistant in a creative team but I would much appreciate opportunities to design in my own right.
Specific Skills: costume design, illustration and construction, fabric painting and decoration, millinery, accessories, fashion design and making.
