Lucy Stack - Costume Designer
My work indulges the eye of the beholder, luring them into a theatrical world of frolics and fantasy. I desire to inflict an audience with my creative energy and raw emotion, through the visual stimulation executed through my designs. I live for the satisfaction of sharing my exuberant imagination with an audience, the rewards are endless. I am an extrovert often people question whether I should be on stage! Although my true passion for art expresses the depth of my imagination and engages my sensuous side. Design provides me with a focus which fulfils my expressive desire, an innovative process which comes naturally to me.
During the last three years I have developed into a well rounded professional through both studying costume design academically, and vital industry experience. To date my work experience started at the BBC costumiers, moving into T.V. set experience working on the costume drama City of vice (channel 4). I was then offered a job on a BBC 2 comedy ‘The Peter Serafenowicz Show’. Later pursuing my passion for bridal and evening wear design, I was offered the opportunity to design a collection for Helen Marina, designing in China for two weeks. Throughout the summer I also worked as wardrobe mistress/dresser on ‘The Rocky Horror Show’, ‘Joseph’, ‘Peter Pan’, ‘The Rat Pack’ and ‘Oliver’.
Through studying costume I love the element of character realisation, it is an amazing process which I endeavour to pursue; the contents in a script provide a mere starting point for a broad depth of research which forms the concept of a visually enthralling journey. I enjoy the research process, because it involves historical and cultural understanding. The creation of a set for my performance is vital I like to see my ideas thrive in their ‘home’ for me it brings the characters to life. The costume designs can then express each individual’s motives and personalities successfully. I personally have a un mistakable passion for fashion and music and enjoy the environment of photo shoots, captivating the spirit of a costume in an imaginary place that never existed is an exciting challenge and stretches the idea of staging to various locations. I could see myself working on music videos and photo shoots as much as designing for film, theatre or T.V. Even designing my own label collaborating fashion and costume design into a highly sort after couture look. I am a confident diverse individual with a passion to succeed. I believe in my ability and can’t wait to embark on a career within the industry I’ve dreamt about for so long.
